I have read several books that talk about worm composting, and this, by far, gives the best information. Several years ago I gave worm composting a try based on some information I found in another book, and my worms died in about 3 days. I thought it was just me. But after reading this book, which contained more and better information about the right types of worms, how to keep them happy, and what not to do, I was finally able to make my own worm compost! It is beautiful and I can't wait to see what it does for my veggies thnis spring! Thanks Jack!Product details

Worm Composting Composting Ideas for use in Organic Gardening Growing of Vegetables Herbs edition by Jack Pollard Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
Mr. Pollard has written a clear and informative guide to raising red worms. I enjoyed the photos as well. I learned a lot about red worms. The book left me wanting more information about worms. I live in a hot climate in an apartment. Maybe if I do more research, I will find more about worms that can live in a hot climate.
I read this book found it very informative and easy to read. It gives sources on where purchase ingredients for composing. Gives complete instructions from start to finish. I only gave 4 stars because I haven't built my compost structure. Thanks this book I will be more successful.
I appreciated the step by step procedures, as well as the photographs. The recipes for composting were great too! Thank you for sharing. I do wish though that the spell check and editing of the book was carefully done before submitting it to . I got quite distracted by the redundancy of some sentences, plus the typographical and spelling errors (ex. vegetable and animal waist).
I also wish that there were better photos of the worms used. It was however a great and informative read! I cant wait to begin composting.
I have started a small worm farm in a fish bowl that I leave on my desk at work. First thing in the morning when the lights have been off you can see the worms through the glass. This is a great project for kids. I am anxious for my first harvest. This book was helpful, written very simply. It could use an editor's touch though. I will read more books from this author.
Very sketchy discussion of worm culture Eg. author says worms thrive within a narrow temperature range, but offers no guidance on coplng with really cold temperatures short of putting the worms behind the stove. He doesn't say whether the worms freeze to death, hybernate, go dormant, or what. The author provides no semi quantitative guidance on feeding; he just says not to over or under feed. Big help. The book is probably worth its price, but just barely. I got what I paid for, no more.
This book is finally something organic gardeners can use as a useful easy to read
tool for learning/ teaching. Very interesting for scouts learning and making bins, etc. However
should have more info on materials and sources. My 3 yr. old neice loves worms, bugs.
We used her curiosity to learn . She loves feeding the worms .
Our neighbor boy age 10 sold worms to buy his first skateboard!
This is my second review of a Jack Pollard Gardening book which deals with the rare Red Worm, which, according to the Author is the only one worth considering for composting activity. This book covers all the basics of worm composting such as worm husbandry, worm residences, worm handling, worm purchase and of course what to do with your finished compost product when it becomes available. I was in fits when I discovered that you can purchase worms by weight from the website!
An excellent beginners guide with several useful links to not only the Author's own Worms-on-the-Web website (my words!) but also to the innovative Worm 360 designer Worm Cottage that is probably as good a place as any for the worm composting novice to commence his or maybe her Worm Composting education.
Of particular interest to gardeners is Jack's Garden page on with books, and all manner of garden requisites.
As a Wormsman of some standing with Brandlings, which seem to like grass cuttings to frolic in, but with little knowledge of the red worm variety, I like this book for its comprehensive encouragement and factual instructions.
Obviously this author is passionate about all things in the garden (particularly those that wriggle) and does a good job of covering the necessary steps for the aspiring Wormpreneur.
Again I have to say that the layout with regard to formatting needs improving, as does some of the spelling and sentence construction. The table of contents is a nightmare to wade through. A little bit more time spent in making the reader experience more enjoyable would improve this book no end. Oh yes I almost forgot ...there is a section on making a worm/compost separator with a handy diagram for the skilled D.I.Yer
